Whether you've received a surprise delivery from Amazing Graze Flowers on your birthday or purchased a bunch of our blooms for yourself, we know that you'll want to enjoy them for as long as possible. Flower bouquets may not last forever (unless they're from our everlasting range, of course), but a little extra care can help you keep them around for a little longer. Depending on the level of care and the type of flowers in the bouquet, it's likely that they'll last 4-7 days or longer.
Start by unwrapping the bouquet and prepare to transfer your blooms into a clean vase. Then, help your flowers look their best for longer with these five simple steps.
How to care for fresh cut flowers by Marketing AGF
1. Cut The Stems
Although often forgotten, it's important to cut the stems of your fresh flowers. Using a pair of scissors or garden shears, trim one to two inches. Cutting the stems at an angle will give the flower the best chance to intake water by preventing the end of the stem from resting directly on the bottom of the vase. You should continue trimming your bouquet once every few days to make sure it can remain hydrated.
2. Prune & Remove Foliage
Gently remove any damaged blooms or foliage that sit below the waterline of your chosen vase. This not only makes your bouquet look better but will also help to prevent the growth of bacteria. Skipping this step prevents hydration and will eventually cause the flowers to wilt. Avoid removing all the leaves along the stem as flowers require these in their hydration process.
3. Add Flower Food
Add fresh water to your vase and mix in the sachet of flower food. This is one of the easiest ways to extend the life of your bouquet. Flower food sachets help to nourish fresh cut flowers, keep bacteria at bay, encourage buds to open and to bloom more fully. Follow the directions on the sachet correctly.
4. Choose A Location
If you want your flowers to last, you'll need to choose the right spot to place them. Fresh flowers tend to prefer temperatures around 18 to 22 degrees and away from direct sunlight. It's best to keep the vase away from appliances that generate heat as well as heating or cooling systems as these can cause dehydration. Placing fresh flowers near ripening fruits can also quicken the aging process, so it's best not to place your vase next to the fruit bowl.
5. Change The Water
Check the water level in the vase each day and refill if needed. If the water becomes cloudy or the water level reduces, replace it with fresh water. Each time you change the water in the vase, clean it thoroughly, half-fill with water and then add the pre-packaged additive. Always use clean, warm water as most flowers take in warm water more efficiently than cold.
